Among them is the great French Post-Impressionist painter Paul Gauguin (June 7, 1848\u2013May 8, 1903), whose work influenced such legendary artists as Picasso and Matisse.<br \/>\n<!--more Leia Mais \u2192 --><br \/>\nA wonderful addition to both the best children\u2019s books about making sense of loss and the finest children\u2019s books celebrating cultural icons, Mr. Gauguin\u2019s Heart (public library) by writer Marie-Danielle Croteau and illustrator Isabelle Arsenault tells the bittersweet, unbelievably beautiful story of Gauguin\u2019s early childhood and how, after his father\u2019s death, the young boy sought solace in art and transmuted his grief into his first painting.<\/p>\n<p>In this 2004 debut, Arsenault \u2014 whose genius has produced such subsequent treasures as Jane, the Fox &#038; Me, Virginia Wolf, and Migrant \u2014 once again reveals herself to be one of the most gifted and evocative visual storytellers of our time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart.jpg\" alt=\"gauguin_heart\" width=\"500\" height=\"583\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1735\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart.jpg 500w, https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart-257x300.jpg 257w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We meet young Paul, a little boy who lives with his beloved parents, his sister Marie, and a dog he adores \u2014 \u201can odd-looking, little orange dog\u201d with whom Paul goes everywhere, plays constantly, and even has conversations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart1.jpg\" alt=\"gauguin_heart1\" width=\"500\" height=\"398\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1736\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart1-300x239.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But the oddest thing about the little orange dog is that is that only Paul can see it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart2.jpg\" alt=\"gauguin_heart2\" width=\"500\" height=\"588\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1737\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart2.jpg 500w, https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart2-255x300.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One day, the Gauguins depart for Peru, and Paul\u2019s imaginary companion boards the ship with the rest of the family. The other passengers find the bond between the boy and his invisible friend endearing \u2014 a testament not to his strangeness but to his boundless imagination.<\/p>\n<p>It is a joyous journey, until Paul finds his mother in tears one afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/2015\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart3.jpg\" alt=\"gauguin_heart3\" width=\"500\" height=\"584\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1738\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart3.jpg 500w, https:\/\/lavorare.net.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/gauguin_heart3-257x300.jpg 257w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>She told Paul and his sister that their daddy had been carried away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow?\u201d the children cried.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was his heart,\u201d Mrs. Gauguin answered.<\/p>\n<p>Marie threw herself, wailing, into her mother\u2019s arms. Paul said nothing. He didn\u2019t understand what it all meant.
